Introduction Anchorage is located in south-central Alaska. It is the largest city on Alaska with a population of 275,043.The area is surrounded by miles of coast, mountain ranges, numerous lakes and rivers, glaciers, ski resorts, excellent fishing and recreational opportunities and nearly 20 state parks. Anchorage is a borough seat and is also known as “The City of Lights and Flowers".
Anchorage enjoys a subarctic climate with average daytime summer temperatures ranging from 55 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit while average day time winter temperature could be anything between 5 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The Municipality encompasses 1,955 square miles, including the smaller communities of Eagle River to the north and Girdwood to the south, an area roughly twice the size of Rhode Island. Most tourists use Anchorage as Alaska’s first stop and use it as a base to over around the state.
