Alaska : Climatic Conditions

The climate of Alaska varies widely from region to region. While Point Barrow remains permanently frozen, the daily winter temperature in the Arctic region reaches below–20°F on an average. Summer maximum daily temperatures in the Alaskan lowlands average above 60°F (16°C) and have been known to exceed 90°F (32°C). The southeastern region experiences moderate temperature, ranging from a daily average of 30°F (–1°C) in January to 56°F (13°C) in July. The entire southeastern region of Alaska has a wide range of microclimates with varying levels of precipitation. Summers in the south-central zone have a similar range of temperature, but winters are somewhat harsher. The Aleutian Islands have chilly, damp winters and rainy, foggy weather for most of the year while western Alaska is also rainy and cool.
